For Parents
Dress Code
Urban Choice Charter School allows students to have some freedom regarding their attire, so it does not require formal uniforms. The school does, however, have a Student Dress Code. Students who come to school without proper attire will not be allowed to enter class. Parents will be called and students will receive a misconduct form. An accumulation of these can lead to suspension or expulsion.
The student’s homeroom teacher, the Dean of Students or School Principal may all ask a student to change his or her attire, but there is only one person in the school who actually provides different clothing for a student if needed. That is the Building and Grounds Supervisor. He walks throughout the school each morning and personally assists students as necessary.

Middle School
Students in grades 7 and 8 must adhere to the same dress code as the elementary students, with two notable additions:
- Middle school students must wear a plain polo-style shirt or a button-up, collared dress shirt of any color. Students may also wear sweaters or vests.
- Middle school students must wear khaki-style pants in blue, black or tan
UCCS apparel is accepted as dress code
Please note:
Students who have pants that “sag” (boys) or are too low (girls) will be given sweatpants and parents will be called. Students will receive a misconduct form for not having a belt if one is needed.
Middle School students will not be allowed to class without proper attire.
End of the Day Dismissal
As you all know, the end of the day in a school is a very hectic one. In order for us to continue to provide the safest possible dismissal for our students, we have changed the entrance for end-of-the-day pick-ups to the Humboldt Street entrance. Please read below and adhere to the following guidelines:
- Pick-up phone calls will no longer be accepted after 3:00 p.m.
- For the elementary building: End-of-the-day pick-up is downstairs in the dining area—please enter the school at the “flagpole entrance” (Humboldt Street) and proceed directly downstairs to the dining area—do not come to the main office.
- For the elementary building: Dismissal begins at 4:10—do not pick up your child before this time unless you have pre-arranged to do so.
- For the middle school building: Dismissal begins at 3:40—do not pick up your child before this time unless you have pre-arranged to do so.
- If you are picking up your child early for an appointment (before regular dismissal time), please send a note or call the main office in advance.

- Attendance
- Students are expected to attend school every day. Parents should call the school at 288-5702 if a child is not coming. The school will call home and/or the emergency contact number if the office is not notified. Students who miss school should bring in a note the next day.

- Proper behavior should begin when the student gets on the bus and/or enters the school. All of the adults in the school as well as those who work on the buses expect respectful, kind and honest behavior from students. - Parent Participation and Support
- There are two parents on the school Board of Trustees and all parents are encouraged to attend Board meetings once a month. A parent representative will be selected for the School Base Planning Team in October. There are also Family and Community Forums every month on a Saturday from 9:00–11:00 am. Parents may come and speak about whatever topic they feel is important.
