Middle School Teacher
- Reports to
- Principal
- Summary
- Support the mission of the school and work to achieve the goals described in the charter. The primary responsibility will be to create, enrich, and maintain a dynamic classroom environment to ensure high levels of student engagement and performance. Classrooms should be structured, fair, and creative.
- Essential Responsibilities
- Present inspiring lessons that lead to high levels of student engagement
- Track student progress and be prepared to share results upon request
- Be consistently fair and firm with students knowing that student behavior is a reflection on job performance
- Have student work samples displayed and easily accessible for viewing
- Create lessons that are varied, creative and inspiring
- Have students do projects and/or presentations regularly
- Call home as needed and when students receive blue slips or referrals; document all communication
- Be prompt and professional when submitting required documentation including long-range plans, report cards, progress reports, grades and other documentation
- Incorporate technology as much as possible into daily instruction
- Keep the classroom neat and organized
- Assist with student arrival including standing in the doorway if requested
- Complete a student background form for new students
- Ask for support if you are having difficulties of any kind
- Effectively utilize volunteers and other support
- Attend required evening events and one Saturday parent forum
- Participate in professional development
- Attend parent conferences for needy students as often as possible
- Provide input on students for meetings, conferences, etc. as requested
- Evaluate Instructional Support Teachers and Teacher Aides two times annually
- Education, Experience & Certification
- The following are preferred, but not essential qualifications:
- New York State Permanent Certification in Middle Grades Education.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with middle grade students in an academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other adults.
- Experience working with children in settings involving planning, implementation, and modification of instruction.
- Time Commitment and Compensation

- Ten-month position in accordance with school calendar.
- Attendance at mandatory monthly morning meetings in addition to occasional meetings/events (mornings, evenings, Saturdays) upon request
