K–8 Principal

Reports to

Summary
The primary responsibility of the K–8 Principal is to manage all elements of K-8 instruction and programs. This position is responsible for ensuring the mission of UCCS in curriculum, programs and activities. This position maintains effective discipline to foster a safe learning environment. The Principal promotes open communication and collaboration with staff, students and parents.

The responsibilities include coordinating staff development, scheduling and managing all teacher evaluations; including the development of competent instructional staff. This position does not carry with it traditional finance and business responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage all daily, K–8, core instruction and programs
  • Manage all extended day programs (After school, summer school, Saturday camps, etc)
  • Evaluate all direct reports twice each year
  • Develop all instructional schedules
  • Coordinate all aspects of staff development
  • Monitor student attendance and enrollments
  • Make long-term suspension recommendations to the CEO
  • Coordinate Saturday Parent Forums and School Based Team meetings
  • Review all student academic progress reports and report cards
  • Recommends to the CEO all candidates for hiring, termination and renewal recommendations for K–8 instructional staff
  • Coordinate all elements of instructional staff absenteeism
  • Approve all instructional orders and ensure proper delivery
  • Assist with grant writing as needed
  • Facilitate student events celebrating school achievement
  • Participate in school-wide parent/community weekend and evening events
  • Approve field trips requests
Education, Experience & Certification
  • NYS Certification as a School Administrator Supervisor, School District Administrator, School District Leader, or School Building Leader (or evidence of ability to obtain in 24 months of hire)
  • Two or more years experience in a supervisory role in a school
  • Experience developing schedules and programs for an organization
  • Proven time management and planning skills
Intended Outcomes and Success Measures
  • Positive evaluation from the CEO.
  • Positive survey responses from staff and parents.
  • Minimum 70% passing rates on NYS ELA/Math examinations; minimum 75% passing rates on Regents exams
Time Commitment and Compensation
  • 12-month position including occasional Saturdays and evenings
  • Attend Board meetings with CEO as requested
  • Some travel may be necessary
